Why Daycare

More Than a Place to Wait. A Real Day for Your Dog.

Dogs are social animals. They’re built to move, explore, and connect — not to sit home alone waiting for you to get back. At Mellow Fellow, daycare isn’t babysitting. It’s a structured, supervised, genuinely fun day designed around how dogs actually thrive.

Real Socialization

Matched playgroups based on size, age, and energy level. Not just dogs in a room together.

Structured Enrichment

Play, rest, exploration, and downtime — a routine that keeps dogs happy without over-tiring them.

Supervised All Day

Trained staff monitor every play session. Nothing goes unnoticed.

A Typical Day At Mellow Fellow

From Drop-Off to Pick-Up, Every Moment Is Intentional.

Your dog's day at Mellow Fellow is structured, supervised, and genuinely fun. Every moment from morning arrival to afternoon wind-down is thoughtfully designed to keep them happy, safe, and thriving.

01

Arrival & Settling In

Each dog is greeted individually and given time to adjust at their own pace. No rushing into the action — Mellow Fellows settle in before they play.

02

Group Play Begins

Dogs join their matched playgroup — sorted by size, temperament, and energy level. Our staff supervise closely, keeping interactions positive and safe.

03

Rest & Downtime

After a play session, dogs get a structured rest break. Cozy spaces, soft music, calm supervision. This prevents over-stimulation and keeps the day balanced.

04

Feeding Time*

Dogs with scheduled meals are fed in a calm, separate space following owner instructions. Plenty of time to eat and digest before afternoon play.

*If applicable

05

Enrichment & Light Play

After a play session, dogs get a structured rest break. Cozy spaces, soft music, calm supervision. This prevents over-stimulation and keeps the day balanced.

06

Wind Down & Pick-Up

As pick-up approaches, the environment stays calm and predictable. A final potty break, a chance to stretch, and your dog transitions back to you: content, relaxed, and pleasantly tired.

Is Daycare Right for You?

Most Dogs Thrive Here. Here’s How to Know If Yours Will.

Daycare is a great fit for most dogs, but not every dog. Here's an honest look at who thrives at Mellow Fellow and who might need a different approach.

Not sure? The Meet & Greet is exactly what it’s for. We evaluate every dog individually — bring them in and we’ll tell you honestly if daycare is a great fit.

A Great Fit For Your Dog

  • Dogs who enjoy being around other dogs
  • High-energy breeds who need more exercise than home allows

  • Puppies (6 months+) building social skills

  • Dogs whose owners work long hours and want them stimulated, not bored

  • Dogs who get anxious or destructive when left alone

May Need More Discussion

  • Dogs with a history of aggression toward other dogs — we’ll evaluate on a case-by-case basis
  • Dogs who are not yet up to date on required vaccinations

  • Intact dogs over 8 months — our spay/neuter policy applies to group play

  • Dogs showing signs of illness — we require healthy dogs for the safety of the group
Why Daycare

Your Dog’s First Day Starts With a Hello.

Before joining daycare, every dog completes a one-time Meet & Greet. It’s a short, supervised introduction — just $15 — where our team gets to know your pup and makes sure daycare is the right fit.

Step 1: Book Your Meet & Greet

Call us at 913.247.1000, use our app, or book online through the Gingr portal. Takes 2 minutes.

Step 2: Bring Your Pup In

The session takes 15–30 minutes. Our team evaluates temperament, energy level, and social style. You’re welcome to ask any questions.

Step 3: You’re In

If it’s a match — and it usually is — your dog is enrolled. Book their first full day whenever you’re ready.

Vaccinations Required

All dogs must be current on Rabies, Bordetella (Kennel Cough), and DHPP before attending. Records can be uploaded through the Gingr app or emailed to us. We can also contact your vet directly.

Temperament & Behavior

Dogs must be friendly and able to interact safely with people and other dogs. Mild shyness is welcome. Aggressive behavior cannot be accommodated in group play.

Spay & Neuter Policy

Dogs over 8 months must be spayed or neutered to participate in group daycare. Younger puppies may attend if they meet all other requirements. Exceptions considered with vet documentation.

Requirements & Policies

A Few Simple Things to Know Before Day One.

Minimum age for daycare: 6 months. Puppies 12 weeks or older may attend prior to the spay/neuter age if all other requirements are met.

Flea & tick prevention is also required. Dogs found to have fleas upon arrival will be separated and treated at owner’s expense ($40 wash fee)

FAQs

Frequent Questions

Everything you need to know about daycare at Mellow Fellow, answered honestly and straight to the point. Still have questions? Call us.

How does daycare work?

Your dog spends the day in supervised group play, matched with compatible dogs by size and temperament. Staff monitor all play sessions, provide rest breaks, and ensure every dog is comfortable throughout the day.

What are your drop-off and pick-up hours?

Monday through Friday: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Early drop-off and late pick-up are available for an additional $30 per hour with advance notice.

Do I need a reservation?

Reservations are strongly recommended to guarantee your dog’s spot. We have a maximum daily capacity of 45 dogs. Walk-ins are welcome but may be turned away if we’re at capacity. Reservations can be made up to a month in advance through the Gingr app, by calling 913.247.1000, or by emailing info@mellowfellowdogs.com.

How are dogs grouped?

Dogs are placed in playgroups based on size, temperament, and energy level. Small, Medium, and Large groups each have their own dedicated indoor play room. Every dog is evaluated during the Meet & Greet to ensure proper placement.

Are dogs supervised at all times?

Yes. Trained staff supervise all dogs during play. We maintain a 1-to-15 staff-to-dog ratio across our three play rooms. AI-enabled cameras monitor all areas at all times.

What if my dog needs a break?

No problem. Dogs are given regular rest periods throughout the day. If a dog seems tired or overwhelmed, staff will move them to a quiet kennel for downtime — no extra charge.

What vaccinations are required?

Rabies, Bordetella (Kennel Cough), and DHPP. All must be current. Records can be uploaded in the Gingr app, emailed to info@mellowfellowdogs.com, or sent directly from your vet.

Can my dog come if they’re not spayed or neutered?

Dogs over 8 months must be spayed or neutered to participate in group play. Younger puppies may attend if all other requirements are met. Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis with veterinarian documentation.

What should I bring?

A secure collar or harness and leash, any required medications with clear instructions, and special feeding instructions if your dog has dietary needs. Food is not typically needed for a day visit unless your dog has medical requirements.

Can you administer medication?

Yes. We can administer most medications with clear, written instructions. Please label all medications with your dog’s name, dosage, and schedule.

What if something happens to my dog?

Your dog’s safety is our top priority. In the event of an emergency, our trained staff will provide immediate care and contact you using the information in your Gingr profile. We will seek veterinary attention at the nearest available clinic or your preferred vet if needed.

Is daycare right for my dog?

Daycare is a great fit for dogs who enjoy socializing with other dogs and people. If you’re not sure, the Meet & Greet is designed exactly for that — we’ll observe your dog and give you an honest assessment.

Ready To Get Started?

Your Dog’s Best Day Is One Meeting Away.

Schedule a Meet & Greet and we’ll take care of the rest. It takes 15–30 minutes, costs just $15 (one time), and gives us the chance to meet your pup and answer every question you have.
